What do you mean “uninteresting”!?
This is M65, a spiral galaxy roughly 35 million lightyears from Earth which I haven’t seen frequently imaged in detail. I found it beguiling and went after it with my largest telescope in the spring as part of a forthcoming 4 panel mosaic of the Leo Triplet.
What’s notable about this galaxy is that it is low on available star forming gas and dust, and as a result has very limited active star formation. This leads it to be labeled “quite uninteresting” on its Wikipedia entry. I couldn’t disagree more! The colors are muted, but the structure is amazing and I felt it was well worth my effort to bring out some of the details to share with you.
What do you think?
