Protests in Minneapolis turned chaotic as demonstrators confronted federal agents following a fatal ICE shooting earlier in the week that left 37-year-old Renée Nicole Good dead during a federal enforcement action.
Video from the demonstrations shows large crowds blocking federal vehicles and throwing snowballs and other objects at officers outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies maintain offices.
As tensions grew, some officers responded by advancing into the crowd and deploying crowd-control measures, including pepper balls and other chemical irritants, in an attempt to disperse demonstrators and clear paths for vehicles.
Bystander and protest footage captures moments in which individuals hit the ground amid the chaos, and agents used physical maneuvers and irritants to push back parts of the crowd. No official injury count has been released, and law enforcement has said the situation was volatile and required coordinated response to maintain safety and order.
City and state officials have urged peaceful protest and called for calm, even as demonstrations spread to other cities and events were planned nationwide.
Investigations into the shooting and the subsequent protests are ongoing, with prosecutors asking members of the public to share any relevant video or evidence.
