New Multi-Angle Video Shows Confrontation Before Fatal Minneapolis Shooting

Newly released multi-angle video sheds further light on the chaotic moments leading up to the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis.

The footage shows Pretti involved in a physical altercation with agents during an immigration enforcement operation early on January 24, 2026. At the outset, bystander video captures Pretti holding what appears to be a mobile phone and filming the scene as agents interact with others in the crowd.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), agents encountered Pretti with a handgun and attempted to disarm him after he “approached officers violently.” DHS officials say a Border Patrol agent fired defensive shots after fearing for his own safety and that of fellow agents.

Video from multiple angles appears to tell a more complicated story: Pretti can be seen being sprayed with an irritant, then wrestled to the ground by a group of federal agents before the shooting. In some clips, one agent appears to remove an item from Pretti’s waistband just moments before shots are fired.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether the object removed from his waistband was the firearm referenced in statements. Local officials have also noted that Pretti was a lawful gun owner with a permit and had no known substantive criminal history beyond minor traffic violations.

The incident has sparked significant public response, with protests and criticism of how federal agents handled the situation. Both supporters and critics have circulated video clips from different vantage points, and debate continues about what exactly led to the use of lethal force. The case is now under ongoing investigation, and further verified evidence — including potential body-camera footage — may be released as part of official review.
