Under the Wing

This is some detail from my forthcoming 4 panel, 200 megapixel mosaic of IC 2177, a complex emission nebula 3,800 lightyears from Earth. Sometimes referred to as the Seagull Nebula, I found the “underside” of the “wings” to hold tantalizing details of the complex structures that lay behind the intense glow of ionized hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur.

I combined multiple images captured with narrowband filters into this image in the ForaxX color palette.
